The Summer Series At Somerset House in London is the festival for people who don’t like mud or leaving cities and love nice, stately surroundings. Q is previewing all of this year’s headliners with a series of interviews and today it’s the turn of Charlotte Gainsbourg who will perform her album Stage Whisper in the courtyard on 19 July with recently collaborator Connan Mockasin. Head to Somersethouse.org.uk for more details including the latest ticket news.
Describe your ‘sound’ in three words:
« Mocassin, Gainsbourg, 2012. »
How will you be travelling to the gig?
« Hopefully a boat, a taxi, a ferry and a car. »
What can we expect from your set outside in the London air at Somerset House?
« I don’t know myself. Not that I’m that unpredictable but it does depend on how people receive and react to the songs. I’ll just try to enjoy myself as a first step. »
Is there anything you’ve got planned for the Somerset House show you can tell us about?
« Exactly the contrary, nothing too planned. I’ll be joining Connan and his band after two weeks off, so the first show should be exciting for us as the routine will have disappeared. »
What one song of yours should we listen to get us in the mood for you show and why?
« The song Connan and I did together: Out Of Touch. »
The Royal Society used to be housed at Somerset House – what one scientific invention would transform your life and why?
« Something that lets you re-experience/re-live precisely your past emotions. »
Where’s your favourite place in London?
« Where my grandmother lived, 21 Old Church Street. »
